Construction Tech 1
About the Program
Through a partnership with the Foundation for Applied Technical Education, Inc. (FATE), students have an opportunity to build a single-family home in Springfield, Virginia. This specialized course curriculum is developed by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). All aspects of new home construction will be addressed during the course. Students will work directly on concrete installation, framing, ceramic tile, kitchen installation, bathroom installations, hardwood floors, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, landscape, and other areas of new home construction. Theoretical and physical aspects of the construction industry are explored in order for students to establish career goals in the industry. Skills USA, the co-curricular student organization, offers opportunities in leadership, community, and competitive events. High-quality work-based learning (HQWBL) is included in this course, and will provide experiential learning opportunities related to students' career goals and/or interests, integrated with instruction, and performed in partnership with local businesses and organizations.
