About the Program
The Civil Engineering department offers a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in civil engineering. Our goal is to produce graduates who are schooled in fundamentals and capable of doing advanced engineering work. Major areas of concentration for this program are: construction engineering and management, environmental engineering and water resource management, solid mechanics, structural engineering, transportation engineering, civil engineering materials, and systems engineering. The available courses include laboratory studies, applied mathematics, engineering analysis, engineering design, and a variety of introductory and advanced level courses in various areas of applied science and engineering management. Master's Degree Options: The Department of Civil Engineering offers two graduate programs leading to the degrees of Master of Civil Engineering (M.S.): Professional Master's Program - for recent graduates and practicing engineers interested in specialized areas to enhance their careers. Master's thesis is optional. Master's Program (pre-doctoral) - for students interested in pursuing a Ph.D. Master's thesis is required. The M.S. (thesis-option) and M.S. (coursework-only) degrees both contain at least 30 credit hours.
